++ Happy 238th Anniversary ++ U S Army ++

The United States Army (USA) is the main branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven U.S. uniformed services. The modern army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War before the establishment of the United States. The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784 after the end of the Revolutionary War to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force.

We salute thier accomplishments and those that have served our nation.

*** Memorial Day ***

We join our country in commemorating the military men and women who died to protect our nations freedom. We celebrate their courage, their fortitude, their willingness to serve. And we salute the courage of those they have left behind – family, friends, fellow soldiers. For the courage to persevere despite their sorrow, we stand together as a grateful nation and give thanks.

*** Cinco de Mayo ***

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a holiday held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla. The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexico’s Independence Day, the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico, which occurs on September 16th. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that is virtually ignored in Mexico.

There is an interesting story attached to this and I only learend it a few years ago, read the full wikipedia article. I like to tell it as a lot of americans don’t seem to know the exact meaning of this date. It seems to many holidays now-a-days are just commercialized and the meanings have been lost, give it a read.

*** Easter Sunday ***

Happy Easter to all. Enjoy the day with family.

According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the March equinox.
