i'm curious, Keith, how much electricity do your "krunchers" consume when running full steam? forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere.

No problem. Yes I might have covered this somewhre,

It is hard to say exactly.

The three older krunchers, off for now, two usually ran about 315W each, the third one with the gtx460 a little more at 342W

The two i7's each with 12 core cpu, one ati hd 6990 watercooled and 2 gtx570s watercooled running at the moment 6 cores plus all 3 gpus each are drawing 673W and 960W. The watts vary depending on the intensity of the apps running. 960W is nearer the max, even when they were air cooled. There were a few spikes into 1000W but I rarely saw them that high for any length of time.

So total draw could be about 2,900W.

I have them running off 3 different breakers in my house and each has it's own UPS supply. I try to keep from maxing out any lines or supply.

Progress report.

Well I think i've recovered from vacation and gotten back, mostly, to my normal routine, that is if I knew what was normal in the first place.

Good news is the computers ran fine while I was gone, although since this was my first vacatio naway since bulding these, i throttled the gpus back from 3 to 1 on each. I was a little nervous about leaving them on full power, ie heat output, and not being around to monitor them. The controller unit dos have limits on each temperature sensor and is suppose to shut down the mobo if exceeded, if i have them set correctly that is.

So today i added liquid to each ??? I have the level marked on each reservoir, and over the last month it has gone down some again in both units, yet I cann't find any leaks or a pool of blue goo on the floor anywhere. I guess since these run rather hot for long periods and it was the same amount about in each system some of it is boiling off ?

Anyhoo back on track, today I spent revising my notes on parts used in each of the two running systems and parts left over. Soon I'll have to redraw the other three systems and figure out what parts will be needed, compare those with what I have left so I can think about a reorder, and wait for a sale, then think about what gpu's I want to buy and waterblocks and look for those.

Let me recover some more and rebuild my energy to get back into building these.

When I can find more time I'll upload somewhere some of the photos I took, hoepfully these might help make some more sense of this.

Most things have been running smooth.

Today I added the backup kooling system (aka window air conditioner). This was not made by microshaft, but LG, which is my 5th LG thingy, there stuff is really kool. The window is only 18 inches from the komputers and only arms length from me. It seems to be blowing more kool air on me than the komputers, I can't get the vents to angle enough to blow more at the komputers. I may have to modify (break) something here. It does blow enough in the general direction and the vent is at the level right between the two units.

It will also help suck up dust and keep some of that away from the komputers. The beach is a nice place to live, but it can be rather dusty here. konstant breeze and wind blows sand and dust everywhere.

It was meant as a supplemental thing anyway. For now i've got it set at 80F to just keep the heat down some. It is only a small 6000 BTU unit picked up for 169 bucks at home depot.

It was above 83F yesterday when i got home as i had the windows closed because i though it was gonna rain, which it didn't. Poor weather info there. it got up into the 80F's yesterday. Today is kooler 61F and a strange fog is now rolling in off the ocean.

I can't really have the windows open now as the leprachaun has been spreading his magic green dust all over everything outside, hence the supplemental kooling.

I'll see how this works for a while and i think with it i'll feel better about adding those other komputers back online, but will still liquid kool at least the gpu's on them.

I'm down one unit.

Woke up this morning to find no fluid flowing in my main system. Spent 1/2 hour now to pull the controler/pump box out. Before repalcing the pump and shoving everything back I tested with spare pump, the spare did not run. So i pulled a spare brand new controller/box. Powered it up, theat pump ran. unplugged the pump and tired the spare, it ran. Tried the pump in the bad box and it ran, so it is the control board for the pump. Not an east change.

I'll have to abandon that box for now, and take apart the new box, reroute tubing and such to make it work for my system, i have to bypass the built in reservoir. This will take more time than I have now before work.

Also too the old pump was leaking eiter around the fittings or the seam in the pump. but not much but there is blue ooze all around it. I think that is garbage too. And since i've modified these, the manufacturer probally will calim it is not under warranty.

After work i have a big job, i need to get this back running and then hope the gpu's didn't burn up. I heard no alarm last night. the computer was on, but not running, no video on screen and, i'm hoping it turned off things and was not still running boinc on the gpus.

What another disaster.

That is a bummer. I am happy to have a data center that some of my crunchers live in, and the others ay my office with AC as it seems like a lot of work on the liquid cooling. Still it is better than cooling yourself. Hope that you get it back on line w/o too much time and expense.

Well i'm back.

I did a quicky swap out. Good thing I have parts waiting to use on the other systems. So I modified a new all-in-one box. Tore out the reservoir, installed a bypass tube. Put this in palce of the other one which I put on the spares pile, one day, it'll get fixed. It has a bad output on the pump control, everything else worked. It was easier to repalce the whole box than pull all the pcbs out and figure out which one of the three at the back end was the bad one. If I had to do this over i'd buy seperate parts. Since i made changes taht is about what i got now. But i used what I ahd it was cheaper than buying all new at the time and being stuck also with unsued items. I'm now thinking though I should pull the pumps out and put them someplace else whcih is hard to do in my very overcrowed space. But it would be nice to see them and easier to fix them maybe if the pump actually goes bad. Now it is hidden inside the balck no-see thru box.

Everything else is workinging now, the gpus back to running. So if it overheated whatever did a shutdown properly, i just never heard any alarms. Either they didn't go off or i was really dead asleep. Maybe too there are some settings in the mobo stuff and that detected an overtemp which did a shutdown before the liquid cooler shut things down, don't know since i was asleep.

It was not really a cheap fix, those all-in-ones cost about 300 bucks. But i can work on getting the now bad one fixed for less, as i'll need it in the future.

Lets hope it was a one time event.

Back to krunchin....
